Job Description
The Economic Development Coordinator will support the growth and resilience of the Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area by advancing initiatives that attract investment, support local businesses, and strengthen the area’s economic sustainability. They will also support the Event and Marketing department in coordinating MPBIA events such as music festivals, block parties, markets, and concerts on select weekends. This role is ideal for someone with strong research skills, a strategic mindset, and a passion for community-driven development.
Eligible candidates are required to be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, have a valid Social Insurance Number, and be legally entitled to work in Canada. A valid Driver’s License is also required for this position. This role is full on-site from early May to late August and pays $21 per hour for 35 hours per week.

Tasks and Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze data on business trends, vacancies, foot traffic, and demographic shifts within the BIA.
- Maintain up-to-date inventories of commercial properties, vacancies, and business listings.
- Liaise with new and existing business owners to provide support, resources, and information on local programs, permitting, and funding opportunities.
- Collaborate with civic and provincial departments to navigate zoning, licensing, and permitting issues affecting businesses under the supervision of the Executive Director.
- Support grant writing and funding applications related to economic development and streetscape improvements.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Events Department to plan, develop, and execute promotions and events.
- Effectively use and manage a CRM to communicate with member businesses.
