Job Description

The Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area (MPBIA) is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Marketing & Event Coordinator. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community development, event planning, placemaking, social media and event marketing, and project management within a non-profit organization setting. The selected candidate will work closely with our staff to support various initiatives aimed at promoting local businesses and enhancing the overall appeal of our district. They will assist the Marketing & Events Manager with the organization of local events and outdoor summer activities from conception to completion, as well as on marketing campaigns and social media support.

This role is ideal for someone interested in community development, events, music and arts programming, and local business advocacy. You are organized, personable, comfortable working independently in public settings, and excited by the energy of live events and neighbourhood engagement.

This position requires a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, as well as a valid driver’s license. The role is on-site and full-time, from early May to late August/early September, offering $21/hour for a 35-40 hour work week.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing MPBIA events, including street festivals, block parties, markets, and concerts.
  • Liaise with business members, vendors, artists, performers, and community partners.
  • Promote events and member businesses both on the ground and across digital platforms and communication channels.
  • Create engaging social media content (static and video) for platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.
  • Lead event execution for smaller-scale events and support execution on larger street festivals and music events.
  • Track vendors and logistics; assist with invoices, receipts, and purchase orders.
  • Maintain content calendars and tracking documents.
  • Support permit applications and coordination with civic and provincial bodies.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to marketing and event planning discussions.

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be passionate about local business, community building, and live events
  • Have experience or familiarity with Instagram and TikTok
  • Be willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Be able to comfortably lift 50lbs
  • Be able to work in-person in the Mount Pleasant area
  • Have a valid drivers license (N or international license is acceptable)
  • Hospitality or event experience is considered an asset
