The year 2020 was a momentous year in our neighbourhood, and the world. With COVID restrictions forcing most of us to stay indoors from March 2020 onwards, we saw an immediate shift in Mount Pleasant where the streets are typically bustling with people who are out and about shopping, dining or visiting to view our murals. The BIA has worked tirelessly with businesses and the City of Vancouver to keep businesses open throughout.

On October 22nd, Mount Pleasant saw a tragic fire which destroyed a few buildings on the east side of Main St, below Broadway, and saw some businesses close. Gracie Barra was able to pivot quickly from some help from their neighbour Ache Brasil, and have now temporarily relocated to 53 East Broadway. Our friends at Dandelion Records also saw catastrophic damage to their location. We look forward to seeing where they pop up again. We look forward to seeing them back in their original location.

And although the pandemic is ongoing, our neighbourhood has seen a number of new businesses open in recent months! We are very excited to see some new businesses decide to make Mount Pleasant their home.
