The Broadway Subway Project has started its construction phase on the SW corner of Main St. & Broadway and adjacent streets. The demolition of the old Tim Horton’s and the adjacent building has been completed.  We are seeing some utility relocations at 8th and Main to facilitate the eventual tunnel. Both of these events going on at the same time are creating a much larger impression of what the worksite will look like later this month. The sewer relocation work should be completed by the end of  June. The station work going on on the block of Broadway, from Main to Quebec street right now is to build a heavy steel deck. This will allow work to proceed beneath the deck without closing Broadway. We will be seeing ( or have already seen ) some lane changes to facilitate that work. This work should proceed until the end of the summer. We anticipate disruptions over the next months, as actual construction begins. MPBIA staff are checking the site daily, and any disruptions will hopefully be kept to a minimum. We will be posting the construction updates below. These are from either the City of Vancouver or the Broadway Subway Group. The MPBIA is here to help mitigate any issues that we are able to. Please feel free to contact Neil@mpbia.ca

Current Disruptions (AS OF October 6th 2022)

Truck volumes increase around the Mount Pleasant site on October 8

October 6, 2022

The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) is in your neighbourhood building the future Mount Pleasant Station. Work on October 8 involves pouring of the station concrete foundation. Concrete trucks will be traveling along Main Street (northbound and southbound), E. 10th Avenue (eastbound and westbound), and Quebec Street (northbound between E. 10th Avenue and E. Broadway) to deliver materials to the site. Trucks will be staged throughout the work along Great Northern Way from 4:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Additionally, concrete trucks will be required to maintain engines running at all times to keep their drums turning. It is expected that this work will be completed before 10 p.m. There will continue to be increased truck volumes in these areas while we build the station.

Access to residences, businesses, and parking garages will be maintained during all work activities. Residents and businesses in the area should expect elevated noise, sidewalk modifications, and lower speed limits. Pedestrians and cyclists will be detoured around work zones as required. The Mobi Bike station adjacent to the laneway will not be impacted. Please watch for and obey traffic control personnel and all signs, and plan extra travel time.
