Mount Pleasant BIA would like to thank all the volunteers, vendors, performers, and visitors who made Main Street Car Free Day 2016 a success!

Car Free Day originated in 2004 on Commercial Drive, as a protest of a highway expansion and has since grown to Vancouver’s largest street festival that includes four different neighbourhoods (Main Street. Commercial Drive, the West End, and Kitsilano) sparking one of the largest volunteer movements in Vancouver.

Each year, Car Free Day closes off  Main Street from 30th Avenue to E Broadway. The biggest of Vancouver’s Car Free Day festivals spanning 21 blocks, Main Street Car Free Day 2016 had 15 stages and mini festivals along the entire street. Sunday June 19th was Father’s Day, which made an excellent backdrop for Main Street Car Free Day 2016. The festival was family-friendly and had something for everyone with tons of free goodies to look forward to like the free toy and popcorn from the MPBIA as well as excellent special event deals from MPBIA member businesses. In addition, you could really taste the flavour of Main Street with extended patios from many restaurants. This year, hundreds of thousands of people flocked to car free Main Street in search of food, free giveaways, and fun! This was a festival not to be missed (and we are of course very sorry if you did)!

Hope to see you next Main Street Car Free Day, Sunday June 18th!
