What better way to explore the beautiful winter fresh air in Mount Pleasant, than going for a walk? We wanted to highlight what we love about this hidden gem that we call home. From exploring the local businesses and eateries, to focusing on getting a solid workout, and also enjoying some nature and serene surroundings, Mount Pleasant has everything you could ask for.

The geographical area stretches west from Cambie St all the way east to Clark and from 16th Ave to the south, down to False Creek including Olympic Village, Science World and everything in between. There’s so much to explore, it was really difficult trying to pick out our top 3 routes.

Here are our Top 3 routes:

Route #1: Food Walk

Whether you’re in the mood for a really good cup of coffee, a mouthwatering and affordable lunch, a fine dining experience, a delicious craft beer, or something to satisfy your sweet tooth, there’s something for everyone.

Starting Point: Burgoo (3096 Main St)

We’re going to start this walk with a meal at Burgoo. Once you’ve got a full belly, you’ll need to walk off your dinner. Head north down Main Street towards 12th Ave. Before we get too far, I’d suggest stopping in at 49th Parallel & Lucky’s Doughnuts for a quick caffeine and/or sweet pick me up. Once you’ve got a coffee in hand, continue your stroll down Main Street. Feel free to stop in at one of many unique stores and stops along the way (we like 8th & Main). By now, you might want to get the party started and visit one of many microbreweries in the neighbourhood. Take a left (heading west) down Broadway. There’s so many to choose from so take your pick. One of our favorites is 33 Acres Brewing Company. Once you’re ready to continue your walk, continue west along Broadway until you reach Cambie St. Turn left (south) along Cambie up the hill until you reach Vancouver’s City Hall building. Find a spot on their expansive lawn, or climb the steps for a gorgeous view of our beautiful downtown.

Had enough food, but looking for some bevys? Here’s a few that we also recommend that are not far from the above walking path:

Main St Brewing Company

La Fabrique St George Winery

Craft Beer Market

Faculty Brewing Company

Route #2: Boosting the Heart Rate

After eating all that delicious food, it’s time to get the heart rate up and burn off a few of those extra calories.

Starting point: Jonathan Rogers Park 110 W. 7th Ave (W.7th ave @ Manitoba St)

Head south (uphill) along Manitoba Ave until you reach 16th Ave, where you’ll find yourself in Mount Pleasant Park 3161 Ontario St (Ontario St @ E. 16th Ave). Cut across the park to Ontario St and head North (downhill) along Ontario St. until you reach 7th Ave again. Head east along 7th ave until you reach Guelph Park 2390 Brunswick St (otherwise known as Dude Chilling Park)

To get an even better calorie burn, while at the parks we suggest you try our outdoor stretches/exercises.

Route #3: Natural Beauty

Our favorite time for this walk is in late winter, early spring. If you can time it right, you’ll catch the cherry blossoms in full bloom.

Starting point: China Creek North Park (1001 E. 7th Ave)

Head west along 6th Ave. Really take a moment to observe the splendor and beauty of the cherry blossoms. Inhale & exhale. Make your way west to Quebec St, take a right and head north all the way down to Science World. Find your way onto the sea wall and head west again along the water. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Keep going until you reach Cambie St Bridge. From there feel free to continue exploring the water, or take a left up Cambie and link up to our first route, Food Walk.
